ENFORCE Hosts First Stakeholder Meeting in Brașov to Advance Citizen Engagement in Forest Management

We’re pleased to announce the successful completion of the first ENFORCE EU Stakeholders Meeting, held in Brașov on April 10, 2025. This gathering marks an important milestone in the ENFORCE project’s mission to empower citizens and strengthen participatory approaches to forest governance in Romania.

The meeting brought together a diverse group of participants, including local authorities, civil society organizations, forest managers, environmental experts, and engaged community members. This cross-sector dialogue aimed to lay the groundwork for inclusive forest partnerships and shape collaborative strategies for sustainable forest management in the region.

The event followed closely on the heels of a national conference on environmental law hosted in Bucharest by Romania’s leading legal information portal in cooperation with the Ecologic University. While not an official ENFORCE event, the conference focused on the newly adopted Forest Code (Law no. 331/2024) and explored the evolving landscape of forest governance in Romania. ENFORCE team members took part in the discussions, which provided valuable insights into the legal and institutional challenges surrounding forest protection and management. The presence of representatives from all four sectors—academia, public institutions, industry, and civil society—offered a unique opportunity to enrich our stakeholder mapping process and inform the agenda for the Brașov meeting.

Key takeaways from the national conference directly shaped the structure and themes of our stakeholder meeting.
