Bridging Research and Innovation: Enforce at the CWS & Environment Agency Workshop

On September 25, 2024, the Centre for Water Systems (CWS) at the University of Exeter and the Environment Agency (EA) joined forces to host a research exchange workshop, bringing together more than 30 experts to collaborate on pressing environmental challenges. The event served as a platform for fostering dialogue, sharing expertise, and strengthening connections between academic research and real-world environmental management.
Spotlight on Enforce & EU Initiatives
Chaired by Professor Albert Chen, the workshop introduced the Enforce project, our EU-funded initiative focused on enhancing environmental compliance through citizen science and pioneering technology. Participants explored how projects like Enforce are driving innovation in environmental protection, with discussions centered around nature-based solutions, real-time environmental sensing, and advanced flood forecasting.
Exploring Innovation in Water & Environmental Management
The workshop featured presentations on a wide range of research topics, from hydraulic flow dynamics and riverbed scouring to wave energy harvesting and ecosystem-based approaches to flood management. Experts from the Environment Agency provided valuable takeaways into ongoing projects related to policy development, water quality monitoring, pollution control, and shoreline management. The discussions underscored the importance of integrating scientific research with practical applications, ensuring that data-driven solutions contribute to more effective environmental policies and strategies.
