As part of its ongoing efforts to enhance the role of citizen science in environmental law enforcement, the ENFORCE project has launched a targeted survey aimed at identifying the key barriers that limit the broader adoption of citizen science approaches in environmental compliance.
Citizen science holds significant potential to support monitoring, reporting, and accountability in environmental governance. From tracking pollution to safeguarding biodiversity, communities across Europe are increasingly stepping into roles traditionally held by institutions. However, challengesโboth structural and perceptualโcontinue to hinder its full integration into official compliance frameworks.
Through this survey, ENFORCE invites partners, practitioners, policymakers, and engaged citizens to share their experiences and insights. The aim is to better understand the real-world obstaclesโlegal, technical, institutional, and socialโthat affect the use of citizen science in ensuring environmental regulations are respected and enforced.
